Student Teaching at Berkeley Middle School: Making comet tails with dry ice.

" Do not train children to learning by force and harshness, but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each. – Plato"

Hi! My name is Krystal Rodney. I was born in New York City, and lived there for 17 years. In 2004, I graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School, in Brooklyn, NY.

In May 2008, I graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor's degree in Biology. In May of 2009, I completed a Master of Arts degree in Elementary Education at the College of William and Mary. I completed my student teaching experience in 3rd grade at Norge Elementary School, and in 6th grade at Berkeley Middle School. Norge Elementary School is located in Williamsburg, Virginia, and opens its doors every day to approximately 700 Pre-K through 5th graders. Berkeley Middle School educates 804 6th through 8th graders every day.

After graduating from William & Mary, I taught 5th grade at Hybla Valley Elementary School in Alexandria, VA, where approximately 850 PK-6th graders are educated every day. In these schools, I have had the wonderful opportunity to work with students that have diverse learning styles and backgrounds, and I have enjoyed every moment. Currently, I am an 8th grade Physical Science teacher at Poe Middle School in Annandale, VA. I knew that I wanted to be a teacher since the 5th grade, and am very excited to continue my career. Regardless of where and what level I teach, I am very excited to know that I can make a difference in any child's life, despite their circumstances. My desire is to help my students exceed the standards that have been set for them.
